This is an experimental online space to facilitate my collaborations. If we are working together, I will have sent you a userid and password. After logging in, on the left, you'll see a navigation bar listing various projects (under Collaborate) that you have been given access to. Click on the project you're working on with me.
To edit a page, click the "Edit Page" button at the top of the page.
To create a new sub page (inserted alphabetically underneath whatever page you're currently browsing), click the "New Page" button.
There's help in various places. Click on "Help" to browse through resources provided by the wiki hosting company named Mindtouch.
At the bottom of each page, there are convenient links to attach (upload) files. Here's how we can share files. If you want to check out the file, then edit the description [click on the Action link to the right of the filename, then "edit description] to indicate that the file has been "checked out" to you. Then download the file. Work on it. When you want to share it me, upload the file back onto the page. There's no need to change the filename with a version # or date because this site does automatic version control (it remembers old versions of files).
If the description line on a file is blank, it will be fair to assume no one's editing the document and that it's free to be checked out.
Only a portion of this entire website has been segmented off to be private and secure. As you can tell, the rest of it is my standard public web page. So make sure to work in the "space" that is private and intended for our project. This wiki has only limited user rights management, so you may have the rights to edit, attach files to, and create new pages on the public portion of my website (on 9/24/2008 4:44 PM, I realized this potential danger and tried to avoid that possibility, but I can't be sure that I've fixed it in a foolproof manner). So, there is a danger that if you're attaching files to my public web pages, you're exposing private date.
So, just check the URL, and make sure that whenever you're adding a page or attaching files that you are working under the proper subdirectory. If our project name is "project omega", then I will have created a space with the URL:
http://jerrykang.net/Collaborate/project omega
Only our team will be able to see that page and all its subpages. Make sure to work only there, and not elsewhere. If you're confused, please consult me first--especially before uploading any mission critical material that is highly confidential.
